There have always been a number of contenders, but in recent years the power of the X Factor has produced a number of Christmas number ones due to the sheer success of the TV show and Simon Cowell’s PR machine.
Christmas 2009 saw that all change though when the internet campaign to get Rage Against The Machine to Christmas number 1 beat X Factor winner Joe McElderry to the number one spot by over 50,000!
We’ll have to see what Christmas 2010 brings but you can bet Simon Cowell would like to get his own back, but with the success of the RATM campaign could see even more contenders.
