X Factor Christmas Number 1?

X FactorThe Christmas Number One single has been dominated by the X Factor winner and 2009 will probably be no suprise.

Shayne Ward had the first X Factor Christmas Number One with “That’s My Goal’ in 2005 and retained the number 1 spot for 4 weeks.

Shayne was followed by 2006 X Factor winner, Leona Lewis, who had the Christmas number one single with “A Moment Like This”.

Leon Jackson took the top spot in 2007 and Alexandra Burke celebrated her first number one last year, with her version of Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah”.

So, who could win X Factor 2009 and potentially have the Christmas Number One Single in 2009?

Early favourites are Danyl Johnson, Stacey Solomon and Lucie Jones.   Spiky haired Irish twins John and Edward have impressed Louis over the last few weeks, and could well be his wild card and possibly be the first X Factor twins to also have the Christmas Number One single!

First ever Christmas number 1

Author: Christmas Number One | Filed under: Christmas Number 1, Christmas Number Ones - 1950's Monday Sep 21,2009

Al_MartinoWith the UK Singles Chart starting in 1952, it was Al Martino who claimed the first ever Christmas number 1.

Born in 1927, Al Martino was an Italian-American singer and actor and it was his song, ‘Here In My Heart’ that became the first Christmas number one and the first Christmas number one of the 1950’s.

Not only was it Christmas number 1, “Here In My Heart” was also the first single to top the newly formed UK singles chart and remained there for the following nine weeks.

That record of being number 1 for 9 weeks, has only been beaten by four other artists in the 50 years and is certainly quite an accolade.

Here In My Heart can be found on a compilation album released in 1999, entitled ‘The Legendary Al Martino’.
